A Chocolate Affair 2020

What better way to celebrate Valentine’s Day than by indulging in fair trade chocolate goodness at World Fare? Join us on Saturday, February 8 from 2:00-4:00 p.m. for our annual bake-off! Some of the area’s most renowned bakers will regale you with their delicious creations, and you can vote with your dollar (literally!) for the entries you prefer.

Voting for A Chocolate Affair will take place 2:00-3:30 p.m. First place in People’s Choice, the top prize, will come with a $50 gift certificate for World Fare, and additional prizes will award second place, third place, Most Original and Best Presentation.

To bake, stop by the store to pick up an entry form (or download a PDF) and your fair trade chocolate to include in your spectacular recipe. You may also fill out the online form here, then stop by the store to get your chocolate. We have bulk and packaged baking cocoa, chocolate bars, chocolate chips and cocoa nibs. On the day of the event, bring your loved ones with you to the event to taste and vote. Tasting is free, and voting tickets are available for $1 each—with quantity discounts!

While you’re in the store for tasting, check out our amazing selection of fair trade chocolate, candy, nuts, coffee, and tea from around the world—great gifts for Valentine’s Day or any day! All proceeds help sustain World Fare, a non-profit, volunteer-run store that supports economically disadvantaged communities around the world through the sale of hand made and edible goods.

Contest Information: 

• Entry in the bake-off requires purchasing fair trade chocolate from World Fare to be featured in the contest recipe. You can download an entry form or submit an entry form online (fill out the form to the right). Printed entry forms and fees can be dropped off at World Fare, 37 N. Main Street in Three Rivers.
• Voting will be done by event participants on Feb. 8 between 2 and 3:30 p.m. using purchased tickets. Tickets will be $1.00 for 1, $5.00 for 6, and $10 for 15. Voting boxes will be located by samples of each entry and each ticket equals one vote. All proceeds will help purchase products from disadvantaged artisans to be sold in World Fare.
• Entrants will be required to divide their recipe into a minimum of 50 small samples for tasting (hint: more samples might equal more votes!). Entrants should plan to be present at the event to promote their entries.
• A panel of judges will be on hand before the event to determine prizes in the categories of Best Presentation and Most Original, with each winner receiving a $10 gift certificate to World Fare. At the end of the event, overall prizes determined by ticket voting will be announced in the category of People’s Choice. First, second and third place prizes will be given with $50, $25, and $10 gift certificates to World Fare respectively.
